SUSTAINABILITY & ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Sustainability and related energy efficiency have been an integral part of Icon Architects design approach. Our membership with Canada Green Building Council and LEED accreditation has been further enhanced by our constant updates of knowledge towards an energy efficient design. Taking advantage of green building design knowledge allows us not only to enhance the quality of the living environment, but also to substantially lower the maintenance and operating costs through the introduction and consideration of Life Cycle Costing.

Application for energy efficiency incentives and a review of the LEED certification potential are integral parts of our approach.

Under the LEED rating system we focus on five main design areas:

From an economic, ethical and health perspective points of view, we consider sustainability and associated energy efficiency an integral part of our design approach. Building orientation in respect to passive solar design, low environmental impact site planning, advanced building envelope design with high performance windows, water conservation for both building and landscape irrigation, high efficiency lighting, and use of non-toxic construction materials are some of the key design concepts that we utilize in our approach to the projects we work on.
